The 'Fight for This Love’ singer has revealed she was completely in awe of the pop sensation and even gave herself a 'horrendous' hairstyle in a bid to look more like her idol.

She said: 'I was obsessed with Beyonce. I remember seeing the video for 'Bills, Bills, Bills’ and just going, 'Oh my God, who is this girl? I want my hair like hers.’ I literally went out and got my hair bleached peroxide blonde. It took eight hours and it looked horrendous.

'She’s just a star. She’s just got it. She’s everything a woman should be and everything you should want to be as a woman. But I didn’t know that at the time.'

The 26-year-old singer even went so far as to copy the eccentric outfits the US starlet wore with her girl band Destiny’s Child.

Cheryl added to Stylist magazine: 'It was cool. I always wanted that urban, baggy jeans look. I’d cut things up and experiment, it always went dreadfully wrong. And then you hit a point where you think I won’t do that again. I can’t wear that again.'

The stunning singer – who appears on the front cover of the June issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine – always feels really nervous before being photographed and doesn’t enjoy the endless preening that goes on.

Speaking in a behind-the-scenes interview for Bazaar TV, she said: 'I don’t tend to enjoy photo shoots, they’re my worst nightmare.

'I don’t like being pampered all day, you know the fluffing of the hair, the pulling on the dresses and the make-up. Although this one (Harper’s Bazaar) has been one of the most fun shoots I’ve done.'

To help her overcome her nerves, Cheryl, 26, puts on Beyonce Knowles’ music to inspire her when she is on a shoot.

The 'Fight for This Love’ singer – who split from her soccer star spouse Ashley Cole in February following allegations he had cheated on her with several women – is reportedly planning to take control of legal proceedings in order to end her marriage amicably.

A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: 'There are no divorce lawyers yet, Cheryl wants to do everything on her own terms.

'She is speaking to Ashley, they are texting - she even calls him babe - but as much as she loves him, there is no way back. This is divorce with dignity, it is Cheryl's style.
